Hello everyone, did you ever wonder why we have multiple seasons? What purpose does having different times of the year serve? I used to think that someone or some being came up with the concept to avoid answering questions. It was the age-old parent response to a child asking why; because.....
Anyways, I am sitting here this morning wondering why it is winter. Really, what does winter do? We freeze, slide all over the road when it is icy and snowing, and we generally are miserable. Days are shorter, the dark is longer..why winter? Thinking about this issue has caused me to become philosophic.
It is my belief that every season serves a purpose. God (I believe in God, but if you do not, subsitute higher being), had some master plan when He created the world and us. He knew that every good should have something less good to balance things out. If everything was great all the time, no one would know it because everything was great. The bad of our lives helps us be thankful for all the good that comes to us.
Winter then plays a very important part of our year. Things have died and it can be miserable out, but we must deal with it. We still have to work, go to school, and live our lives. Even though everyone is bundled up and is getting sick, we have work through the season. Because if we don't, we miss Spring. Spring is when everything comes back, everything is new again. Who doesn't get "spring fever" on the first nice day of the year? And even non-baseball people mark the day when spring training starts because it means winter is ending.
But God, and or Hallmark Cards, had a plan. Each season has something that you look forward to every year. Spring - baseball, Summer - BBQ's, picnics, swimming, golf, Fall - leaves changing, Halloween, football. Even winter has its pluses. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's are all part of the season. Many fond memories are based upon sledding, skating, or building a snowman. God I think was saying, yeah the weather is not going to be great, but here is some good stuff to offset it.
Well, enough of my musings today, I have to go shovel.
Hopefully, we do not loose the ability to see the good in everything and appreciate it. If you get lost in the bad, look at your kids or family and it's all good.
